INCHEON — General vehicle access to Incheon Family Park will be fully restricted on the 25th, the day of the Chuseok holiday. The measure is aimed at preventing severe traffic congestion, and free shuttle buses running to and from Bupyeong Samgeori Station will be deployed to help visitors reach family graves.
The Incheon Metropolitan Government designated the period from the 19th through October 5 as its Chuseok grave-visiting response period and will operate a comprehensive traffic and safety plan. All facilities inside Incheon Family Park will operate normally during the holiday.
On the 25th, the Chuseok holiday itself and the busiest day for visitors, all general vehicles will be banned from entering the park between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m., except for hearses visiting the Seunghwawon crematorium.
The city will run 10 free shuttle buses intensively from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day. Visitors using the subway can exit through Exit 2 of Bupyeong Samgeori Station on Incheon Subway Line 1 and transfer directly to external shuttle buses, six in total, that run straight to the large parking lot. Four internal shuttle buses circulating among the park's main charnel facilities will be timed to connect with them.
The city will also open the park early to spread out visitors. For three days from the 24th through the 26th, the charnel house will open two hours earlier than usual, operating from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
To ease parking shortages during the holiday, the athletic field at nearby Jeil High School will be opened as a temporary parking lot from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 24th through the 26th. On days other than Chuseok, vehicle access will be controlled flexibly depending on conditions on the ground.
Ten temporary memorial rooms will be added at the Pyeongondang and Byeolbitdang facilities, and a 119 ambulance will be stationed at the large parking lot at all times. An online grave-visiting system will also be available for bereaved families unable to visit in person.
"Traffic congestion is expected to be severe on the day of Chuseok, so we will encourage the use of public transportation and participation in advance and online grave visits to prevent safety accidents," said Kim Sang-jung, head of the Incheon Metropolitan Government's elderly policy division.
