INCHEON — Three candidate names have entered the final round of competition for the official title of Incheon Museum Park, the working name for the city's first large-scale integrated cultural landmark, which opens in 2028. Public debate now centers on whether the name should convey the site's function directly or highlight the maritime identity of Incheon as a port city.
The city of Incheon is conducting a second public preference survey through the 20th on the shortlisted candidates, narrowed down after an initial perception survey in July and in-depth expert interviews, or FGI, in August.
The field has been reduced to three contenders. They are Incheon Museum Park, which emphasizes the intuitive function of the space; Museum Port Incheon, which reflects the history of the port's opening and its role as a maritime hub; and Incheon Museum+, which symbolizes a complex and expanded cultural experience.
Incheon Museum Park is a large-scale cultural infrastructure project that brings together a newly built municipal art museum, the municipal museum relocating and expanding to the Yonghyeon-Hagik district, and an arts park.
The city plans to gauge preferences not only for an integrated brand representing the entire complex but also for the names of the individual art museum and museum facilities, in order to ensure consistency and harmony among the spaces within the complex.
The survey is being conducted online and offline simultaneously through the 20th. Residents can take part through the city's website, at major arts and culture venues, and at booths for the 2026 Incheon Museum of Art Preliminary Project.
Based on the survey results, the city will hold a name selection meeting to draw up Korean and English name proposals, then open a public hearing on October 30 to finalize the brand design.
"By gathering the perspectives of residents and experts step by step, we will complete the best possible name and brand that represents Incheon and is easy for anyone to say," said Jeong Kyung-won, head of the city's cultural infrastructure division.
