BUSAN — A guest opens a wrapped package in a luxury hotel room without knowing which book is inside, turns the pages, and then heads out into the alleys of Busan's old downtown. Food and beverage promotions round out the stay.
Lotte Hotel Busan said on the 9th that it is launching "A Line of Autumn," a local partnership room package that combines Busan's regional content with an independent bookstore. The product is designed to draw visitors away from the well-known tourist sites concentrated in eastern Busan and toward the history, alleys and independent publishing culture of the old downtown.
The package consists of one night at Lotte Hotel Busan and one independently published book selected by the Busan bookstore Hamataeomyeon. Guests receive either an essay collection or a picture book, along with a handwritten recommendation card prepared by the bookstore.
The books come in blind wrapping so that guests cannot tell which title they are getting. The hotel has turned the moment of opening the package in the room and finding the book and the handwritten card into part of the travel experience itself. The idea is to let guests step away from daily routine and rest fully while reading on an autumn night.
Hamataeomyeon, the partner in the project, is an independent publisher whose stated mission is recording things that are disappearing and repairing relationships. Located in a redevelopment district in Jeonpo-dong, it curates books about Busan's past and present, giving it a close tie to the city's local identity.
The hotel expects the package to show foreign visitors a different side of Busan. Rather than simply touring famous attractions, travelers can take home the analog sensibility distinctive to Korean independent bookstores as a souvenir. Guests can also read the book at the hotel and then visit Hamataeomyeon in person, building an itinerary that includes a walk through the old downtown alleys.
Reservations and stays run through November 30. Bookings are accepted only through the hotel's official website.
"This is an emotional travel product that goes beyond simply staying overnight, delivering the deep narrative of Busan's old downtown through the warm curation of a bookstore owner," an official at Lotte Hotel Busan said. "We hope guests experience a gift-like moment along with Busan's hidden local sensibility."
Lotte Hotel Busan is also running a range of food and beverage promotions at its Japanese restaurant Momoyama and its casual dining venue Blue Haven. Through the 31st of next month, Momoyama is offering a "Direct Call & Dine" promotion for sushi counter omakase guests.
Blue Haven will host "Blue Haven Oktoberfest 2026," themed on the German beer festival, from the 11th through the 11th of next month. From the 14th through November 30, it will also run "Autumn Pocha in Blue Haven," which combines outdoor barbecue with the atmosphere of a Korean street food tent.
