YEOJU — The 4th Presidential Cup National Senior Park Golf Championship, a recreational sports festival for older adults, will be held for two days from the 16th to the 17th of this month at Ohak Park Golf Course in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province.
About 1,000 people, including officials and athletes from senior association chapters in 17 cities and provinces nationwide, are expected to take part, the Yeoju city government said on the 8th.
The Korea Association of Senior Citizens is organizing the tournament, with its Gyeonggi Province chapter and Yeoju branch managing the event. The Ministry of Health and Welfare, Gyeonggi Province and the city of Yeoju are among the sponsors.
Park golf is relatively easy to take up, making it popular not only among older adults but across age groups. The sport has established itself as a way to improve health and provide wholesome leisure activity.
Yeoju expects the tournament to broaden fellowship and exchange among older adults nationwide and to encourage active later life.
The city is inspecting course facilities in advance to ensure the tournament runs smoothly. It is also working on visitor conveniences, safety management systems, and traffic and parking measures.
Officials also expect an economic boost from the large number of visiting participants. Increased use of lodging and restaurants is projected to help local businesses.
The city plans to distribute tourism guides to participants coming from across the country, aiming to promote Yeoju's attractions and support the local tourism industry.
