Gyeonggi Reopens 9.2-km Yongchu Valley Trail After Flood Repairs

SUWON — Gyeonggi Province will reopen the 9.2-kilometer trail along Yongchu Valley in Yeoninsan Provincial Park on the 11th, after completing repairs to sections damaged by heavy rain last year.

The province closed the trail in July last year after downpours washed away walkways and facilities including the Soritgil and Myeongpum Valley routes. Repair work began in April this year.

Crews regraded damaged slopes and used a technique of wedging and stacking natural stones in place to improve stability. For bank protection along the valley, they used stones from the surrounding area to preserve as much of the original landscape as possible.

Ahead of the reopening, about seven tons of debris left in the valley, including wire and concrete, was also removed.

Visitors can walk from the trail information center to the end of the Soritgil and Myeongpum Valley routes, a one-way trip of about two and a half hours.
