A worker in his 30s died while carrying out diving work in waters off Yeosu, South Jeolla Province.
According to the Ministry of Employment and Labor on the 3rd, the worker, identified only as A, was found dead at around 11:20 a.m. that day, an estimated time, while conducting scuba diving work from a vessel in waters near Yeosu in Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City. The worker was employed by a subcontractor of Korea Western Power.
The ministry said it "immediately launched an accident investigation and took stern measures including a work suspension order," adding that it "will begin a rigorous investigation into the cause of the accident and into whether the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accidents Punishment Act were violated."
