A Vietnamese exchange student has been arrested on suspicion of killing a female student of the same nationality and fleeing the scene.
Busan Jungbu Police Station said on the 27th that it had detained a man in his 20s, identified only by the surname A, and was questioning him on charges including murder.
The suspect is accused of breaking into the home of a woman in her 20s, identified as B, in Busan's Jung District at around 1:15 a.m. on the 26th, threatening her with a weapon, binding her mouth and hands with tape, and strangling her to death while robbing her of cash.
Both were Vietnamese nationals who attended a university in Busan and knew each other, according to police. Around midday on the day of the incident, an acquaintance who had been unable to reach B went to her home and found her dead in the bathroom, then reported it to police.
Police made the emergency arrest at around 6:15 p.m. that day at a hospital in Busan's Sasang District, where the suspect was receiving treatment. He is said to have gone to the hospital after being injured during the crime.
Police plan to question the suspect on the exact motive and circumstances of the crime and to seek an arrest warrant.
