GYEONGSAN — A Chinese man in his 30s arrested on suspicion of killing a Chinese female graduate student in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang Province, was a lecturer at the university the victim attended.
The suspect, identified only as A, taught two major courses at one of the university's undergraduate colleges during the first semester, the university said on the 26th.
A was also scheduled to teach two courses in the second semester.
Posts circulated in a local group of Chinese students in Korea said A had been on friendly terms with students and was acquainted with the victim, according to accounts of the messages.
Police are verifying those accounts while investigating the specific motive and circumstances of the crime.
The victim had already found a job in China and had entered Korea for the last time to receive a certificate related to completing her program when she was killed, according to accounts of the case.
