GURI — The city of Guri, in Gyeonggi Province, said on the 26th that it is accepting applications through September 7 for a citizen evaluation panel that will monitor and assess how the mayor's campaign pledges are being carried out.
The panel is a citizen participation body designed to incorporate residents' views into the pledge implementation process and to improve transparency and credibility. Any Guri resident interested in city affairs and the pledge projects, and willing to take an active part in the panel's work, may apply.
The city will select panel members by lottery after taking into account applicants' gender, age and area of residence. The aim is to ensure that a range of residents' voices is reflected in a balanced way.
Panel members will review the pledges and the plans for carrying them out, and will monitor and evaluate the progress and results of each project. They will also deliberate on any changes or adjustments to the pledges, offer their views, and propose ways to supplement or improve related policies.
The city plans to finish assembling the panel in September and then review the overall implementation plans for the pledges made in the current mayoral term. It will also gather the panel's views on pledges that may need to be changed or adjusted. Members will be trained in evaluation methods so they can assess progress objectively and systematically before taking part in regular reviews.
"Pledges are promises made to residents, so it is important that the process and the results be checked and evaluated directly, at the level of residents' own expectations," Guri Mayor Shin Dong-hwa said. "We will actively reflect the range of views the citizen panel puts forward in our pledge projects, delivering results that residents can feel, building a city government they trust, and creating a Guri where the residents are the mayor."
