BUSAN — Dongseo University said on the 26th that it had been selected for the 2026 Cybersecurity Specialized University Support Program, run by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA). The university said the selection would accelerate its efforts to train practical incident response specialists who can respond immediately to cyber threats in the industrial field.
According to Dongseo University, the six-year program, running from 2026 to 2031, will involve a total budget of 3.3 billion won ($2.4 million), including 2.7 billion won in government funding (450 million won per year) and 600 million won in private contributions.
Song Jong-geun, head of the information security department who leads the program, said industry demand is strong for practically trained talent equipped with the ability to detect attacks, analyze their causes and respond quickly amid surging cybersecurity threats. Song said the university would combine its educational capabilities with the hands-on infrastructure at Centum Campus and cooperation with KISA and companies to train incident response experts who can be deployed to the field immediately.
Dongseo University plans to move away from purely theory-based education and build a fully hands-on curriculum specialized in incident response. It will set up a step-by-step training system spanning penetration testing, breach analysis, cybersecurity monitoring, digital forensics and incident response, guiding students to directly experience the full process of attack, defense, analysis and investigation in real cyber breach situations.
The Centum Campus in Haeundae will serve as the base for hands-on training. The university plans to create dedicated practice environments for penetration testing, breach analysis, security monitoring and digital forensics within Centum Campus, and to incorporate the latest technologies and response procedures used at actual security firms and industrial sites into its curriculum.
In the early stages of the program, the university plans to focus on building the specialized practice infrastructure at Centum Campus, then gradually expand joint projects with security firms, field training and job placement programs.
