JEONNAM-GWANGJU — The Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City said on the 25th that 1,032 of its tourism and cultural attractions were selected for the government's list of Korea's top attractions, the fourth-highest tally among the country's provinces and metropolitan cities.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism ran the "Korea's Top Attractions 100×100" project, in which travel experts recommended attractions across 100 themes and the public voted to select the representative sites.
In the combined vote rankings across all themes, Suncheon Bay National Garden placed 6th, Juknokwon Bamboo Forest in Damyang 7th, Suncheon Bay Wetland 8th and the Metasequoia tree-lined road in Damyang 9th.
The selected sites include Mudeungsan National Park, the Land's End village in Haenam, the green tea fields of Boseong, Purple Island in Sinan, the Mokpo Marine Cable Car, paragliding on Mount Jiri in Gurye and the octopus street in Muan — major ecological, leisure and culinary destinations in the region.
