A Chinese student in her 20s who went missing in Daegu was found dead six days later, and police have arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of murder.
The North Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency said on the 25th that it had detained a man in his 30s, identified as B, on suspicion of killing A, a 25-year-old Chinese national studying in South Korea, and was questioning him.
A was a Chinese student enrolled in a graduate program at a university in Gyeongsan and had entered the country on the 14th of this month to collect her certificate of completion, according to police. On the night of the 20th, the day before she was to receive the certificate, she took public transportation to an area near Dongdaegu Station in Daegu and then lost contact with her family.
Police received a missing-person report from a South Korean acquaintance of A on the 21st, the following day, and had been searching the area around Dongdaegu Station and tracing her movements. At around 7:29 p.m. that day, officers executed an arrest warrant for B in Gyeongsan and found A dead at his residence in Hayang-eup.
Police plan to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of A's death. They also plan to question B about his motive and the circumstances of the case, and to search his residence and other locations for additional evidence.
