Universities Forge Super Wide-Area Semiconductor Talent Pact

Daegu University signed an online memorandum of understanding (MOU) with universities, semiconductor companies and specialized institutions across the capital, Honam and Gangwon regions to build a super wide-area semiconductor talent development system, the university said on the 27th.

The agreement was arranged to actively respond to the Ministry of Education's "Super Wide-Area Growth Engine Talent Development Program," which the ministry is pursuing this year with a total budget of 80 billion won.

In addition to Daegu University, five universities participated in the agreement, including Sungkyunkwan University, Chosun University, Hallym University and Hanyang University ERICA.

The five universities agreed to actively pursue joint academic operations through joint curriculum development, education course linkages, credit exchange and course completion recognition.

The five universities also launched an "Industry-Academia-Research Semiconductor Talent Development Council" involving 14 semiconductor companies and three specialized institutions.

Daegu University partnered with TSE, Telechips, TeO, the Nano Convergence Technology Institute and the Daegu campus of Korea Polytechnics, while the other four universities established industry-academia cooperation networks with strong small and medium-sized companies representing their respective regions.

"We will bring together the strengths each holds into a single convergence education system, and create a structure in which companies take a leading role from the curriculum design stage, so that we can produce core talent who can be immediately deployed to industrial sites," Daegu University President Yoon Jae-woong said.
