A ride cabin fell and collided with another cabin at an amusement park in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province. Fortunately, the fallen cabin carried no passengers, so there were no major casualties.
According to the Gyeongju city government and other sources, the accident occurred at around 11:30 a.m. on the 9th at the "Time Rider" ride at Gyeongju World in the Bomun Tourist Complex in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, when one cabin fell and collided with two nearby cabins.
There were no passengers in the fallen cabin. However, the accident cabin left the track just before entering the ground platform and struck another nearby cabin. From this impact, a total of five people riding in the cabin—four elementary school students and one woman in her 40s—were transported to a nearby hospital. All of them returned home after receiving treatment, according to reports.
Eyewitness accounts followed immediately after the accident. From the time the accident occurred, posts appeared on online communities saying, "The ride cars collided with each other and then one fell to the floor," and around noon, photos showing a cabin dangling beneath the structure spread through social networking services (SNS).
Immediately after the accident, Gyeongju World fully suspended operation of the Time Rider and began a safety inspection of the facility.
A Gyeongju city official explained, "Under the Tourism Promotion Act, administrative action can be taken if a ride stops for more than 30 minutes due to a malfunction or if someone is injured, but since no one was injured in this accident and the stoppage lasted only about five minutes, it is difficult to impose punishment under the relevant law."
The official added, "We recommended that thorough attention be paid to facility safety management to prevent secondary accidents."
