The Korea Forest Service said Tuesday it will raise the landslide crisis alert from "caution" to "warning" for Daejeon, Sejong, Gangwon Province, North Chungcheong Province, South Chungcheong Province and North Jeolla Province, effective 2:30 p.m.
In preparation for heavy rainfall, the Korea Forest Service strengthened its emergency response system by elevating the head of the situation room at the Landslide Prevention Support Headquarters from the director of the Landslide Prevention Division to the Forest Disaster Control Officer.
"As the landslide crisis alert has been raised to the 'warning' level, we ask local governments in areas where heavy rain is forecast to immediately share the dangerous situation with local residents and determine whether to evacuate residents preemptively," said Lee Yong-kwon, Forest Disaster Control Officer at the Korea Forest Service.
