Park Eun-sik, head of the Korea Forest Service, on Tuesday ordered the emergency dispatch of division-level landslide cooperation officers to six metropolitan governments where the landslide crisis alert has been raised to the "alert" level: Daejeon, Sejong, Gangwon, North Chungcheong, South Chungcheong, and North Jeolla.
He instructed the landslide officers to check whether local governments are issuing landslide forecasts in a timely manner, whether resident evacuation support systems are functioning, and the status of preemptive measures against risk factors such as landslide-vulnerable areas, and to ensure thorough on-site response until the heavy rain ends.
Park also called on regional disaster and safety countermeasure headquarters to actively use the digital slope-integrated landslide information system to closely monitor landslide predictions and real-time occurrences.
