
A magnitude 2.1 earthquake struck an area 13 kilometers northeast of Gimcheon in North Gyeongsang Province at around 8:57 p.m. Saturday, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said.
The epicenter was located at 36.23 degrees north latitude and 128.20 degrees east longitude, at a depth of 9 kilometers. The maximum intensity recorded on seismographs was III (3) in North Gyeongsang Province and II (2) in North Chungcheong Province. At a maximum intensity of III, people indoors and on upper floors of buildings feel the shaking noticeably, and parked vehicles rock slightly.
"Areas near the earthquake may feel the tremors," the KMA said, urging residents to take care for their safety.
