South Korea's National Assembly approved the nomination of Kim Sung-soo as a Supreme Court justice at a plenary session on the 17th. Lawmakers took up the confirmation motion as the first item on the agenda, approving it with 217 votes in favor and 28 against, with 13 abstentions, out of 268 members present.
A Supreme Court nomination requires the attendance of a majority of all sitting lawmakers and the support of a majority of those present. Once President Lee Jae-myung signs off on the appointment, Kim will begin a six-year term on the bench.
