PARIS — President Lee Jae-myung said on the 8th that South Korea will "actively identify mutually beneficial cooperation projects that serve both countries" in the defense sector.
Lee made the remarks in a joint press statement after a summit with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace in Paris. "The 'Pegase' joint air force exercise to be held in Seoul next week and the mutual port calls by the two navies planned for the second half of this year will serve as examples that enhance mutual understanding and interoperability between the two militaries and demonstrate our increasingly close strategic coordination," he said.
He added that France, a leading defense power representing Europe, has participated in various projects to strengthen the capabilities of the South Korean military. "Korean companies are also continuing to expand next-generation technology cooperation with leading French defense firms such as Airbus," he said. Lee stressed that the two countries "will actively identify mutually beneficial cooperation projects that serve both countries, based on France's accumulated technological capabilities and South Korea's competitive manufacturing capacity."
