The Sejong Institute said on the 1st that it has appointed Kim Jung-sup, a senior research fellow at the institute, as its 13th president.
Kim spent 27 years handling foreign policy and security affairs at the Ministry of National Defense and the National Security Office of the presidential office. After leaving public service in 2020 as head of the defense ministry's Office of Planning and Coordination, Kim served as a senior research fellow at the Sejong Institute.
In an inaugural address, Kim said the institute must respond more actively to the tasks the times demand as the international order undergoes a major transition, pledging to strengthen internal research capacity and expand the institute's external networks to a higher level. The term runs three years, through September 2029.
