The Democratic Party of Korea is expanding and rebranding its official YouTube channel "Deli Minju" as "Minjudang TV," shortened to "Minti," and will air its first pilot live broadcast at 7 a.m. on the 1st of next month.
The party said on the 31st that it was overhauling the channel to deliver its official positions and policies directly to the public and its members in response to a rapidly changing media environment, and to set the agenda on major political issues.
The 7 a.m. live program, tentatively titled "Minti 07," will cover the party's main policies and current issues. The first pilot broadcast will focus on "Mega Ten," a package outlining the party's future strategy.
The show will be divided into two parts. In the first, party leader Kim Min-seok will appear in person to explain "Mega Ten" and other key agenda items along with the party's policy vision. In the second, panelists will analyze those issues in depth from various perspectives. The program will also feature a culture and arts commentary segment offering fresh takes on politics and the arts.
The show will be hosted by a single anchor. Park Young-sik, a former news anchor at MBN and Yonhap News TV, and Ahn Tae-hoon, a former JTBC anchor and reporter, will serve as main hosts. Ahn Sun-ha, a former World Health Organization consultant on AI, climate and health who served as co-chair of the party's campaign committee for the June 3 local elections, will join as a regular panelist. Democratic Party deputy spokespeople Kang Sung-pil, Lee Ji-hye and Sung Chi-hoon will also rotate as guests on different days of the week.
The party plans to gather feedback from viewers and members during the pilot run, refine the program and begin regular broadcasts on the 14th of next month.
Another distinctive feature is the 37-minute cap on airtime. The live segment is designed not to exceed 37 minutes, with any recording that follows produced separately as "Minti 07 Behind the Scenes." That material will be released in a video uploaded at noon the same day.
Kim Nam-joon, chair of the party's public relations committee and a lawmaker representing Gyeyang-B in Incheon, said the new program is not competing with existing channels. "Minti 07 will not be in competition with the excellent democratic and progressive channels that already exist, but will work in solidarity and cooperation with them to build a healthy and dignified ecosystem of public debate where diverse viewpoints come together," he said.
