The Democratic Party of Korea named Secretary-General Han Jeoung-ae and Policy Committee Chairman Kwon Chil-seung as co-heads of its housing market stabilization task force. By putting the two officials who oversee party administration and policy at the forefront, the party signaled the weight it attaches to crafting housing measures, now the public's top concern.
"There are various task forces and special committees, and party appointments will continue going forward," party leader Kim Min-seok said at a supreme council meeting held at the Inspire hotel in Incheon on the 28th. "We are about one-third to halfway through the process." He also announced additional appointments, including naming Rep. Lee Hae-sik alongside Rep. Kim Nam-hee as co-heads of the police reform task force. The two traveled to Jeju that day in connection with a case involving the false closure of a missing-person report filed for Jang Mi-ran.
Referring to supreme council member Kwon Mi-kyung, who was appointed as a representative of the labor sector, Kim said questions were being raised about restrictions on labor flexibility in connection with mega projects, and asked her to consult and discuss the matter with labor groups. Turning to supreme council member Park Sun-won, he suggested creating a body or special committee on the return of wartime operational control together with lawmakers on the National Defense Committee.
Chief spokesperson Park Sung-joon then detailed the appointments, saying Han and Kwon had each been named co-heads of the housing market stabilization task force. Rep. Lee Yong-sun and Rep. Kim Byung-joo were appointed co-chairs of the special committee on a new peace strategy for the Korean Peninsula. Rep. Oh Gi-hyoung will chair the special committee on Korea's capital markets.
The police reform task force will be co-headed by Reps. Kim Nam-hee and Lee Hae-sik, with Reps. Lee Ki-heon, Kim Dong-ah, Lim Mi-ae and Lee Ju-hee serving as members. Rep. Hwang Jung-ah was named chair of the special committee on science and technology, and Rep. Kim Yun chair of the special committee on health care. Rep. Park Jung was named standing head of the party's diplomacy group for the United States, China and Japan, with Reps. Min Hong-chul and Hwang Hee added as co-heads.
Supreme council member Choi Min-hee will head the task force on strengthening media accountability, with Rep. Roh Jong-myun serving as secretary. Rep. Yoo Dong-soo will head the committee preparing for the 2027 Seoul World Youth Day, with supreme council member Jeon Yong-gi as co-head.
Additional appointments were also announced for the special committee on mega growth, which Kim chairs. Rep. Lee Kwang-jae, who chairs the National Assembly's Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, was named senior vice chair, and Kwon joined as standing vice chair. Han Sang-ik, former presidential secretary for national agenda, will serve as co-secretary.
Members of the mega growth committee include Reps. Kim Won-yi, Kim Eui-kyeom, Kim Han-gyu, Park Kyun-taek, Park Sang-hyuk, Oh Gi-hyoung, Lee So-young, Lee Yeon-hee, Han Jun-ho, Park Jie-won, Park Hong-bae, Lim Mun-young, Jeon Eun-soo and Heo Sung-moo, with party spokesperson Park Kyung-mi serving as the committee's spokesperson.
