National Assembly Speaker Cho Jung-sik appointed four private-sector experts as advisers on the 27th, including Ko Sam-seok, a chair professor at Dongguk University's School of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence.
Ko, a former standing commissioner of the Korea Communications Commission, will serve as adviser on culture, broadcasting and telecommunications. Jung Seung, who served as the first commissioner of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and later as president of the Korea Rural Community Corporation, will serve as adviser on innovative growth.
Song Jong-wook, former president of Kwangju Bank, was named adviser on finance and the economy, and Moon Chul-woo, a professor at Sungkyunkwan University's School of Business, was named adviser on future economic growth.
The posts are usually filled by figures from political circles, and the speaker's decision to hand them to private-sector experts is seen as an effort to draw on specialized advice.
"I expect each of them to offer a wide range of advice in their respective fields on the policy direction the National Assembly should take," Cho said.
