Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit South Korea for a two-day trip on the 19th and 20th to hold foreign ministers' talks between the two countries.
Wang is making an official visit at the invitation of Foreign Minister Cho Hyun, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Park Doo-soon said at a regular briefing on the 18th. The two ministers plan to hold the South Korea-China foreign ministers' meeting and an official dinner on Aug. 19, exchanging in-depth views on issues of mutual interest including bilateral relations, the situation on the Korean Peninsula, and regional and international affairs.
Wang visited South Korea last year accompanying President Xi Jinping for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, but this marks his first solo visit in about five years, since September 2021. It is also the first South Korea-China foreign ministers' meeting in some 11 months, following the previous one held in Beijing last September. The talks are expected to serve as an occasion to review progress on the full restoration of South Korea-China relations and to accelerate preparations for the next steps and high-level exchanges, ahead of the APEC summit in Shenzhen this November.
