President Lee Jae-myung called for expanding housing supply during a second meeting on real estate policy on the 7th, telling Prime Minister Han Seong-suk and relevant ministers, "Do not cling to conventional ways of thinking. Make transformative judgments, think boldly, and put them into practice."
Kang Yu-jung, senior presidential spokesperson, made the remarks in a written briefing after the real estate review meeting concluded. Following the first meeting held over seven and a half hours on the 3rd, the meeting on the 7th also involved six hours of wide-ranging discussion on expanding real estate supply and swiftly implementing measures.
"At the first meeting, President Lee ordered officials to prepare measures to maximize supply volume and to advance the timing of supply as much as possible," Kang said. "President Lee received reports from relevant ministers and the committee chairman on the direction of financial support to promote housing supply, as well as measures to induce and support early supply of real estate."
At the meeting on the 7th, specific supply sites and volumes in the Seoul metropolitan area are believed to have been discussed. The Presidential Office is reportedly reviewing options including using semi-industrial zones in the metropolitan area or lifting greenbelt restrictions to secure new housing sites.
As a financial support measure to underpin supply, the government is reportedly considering maintaining its stance on managing household loans while easing lending regulations related to housing supply projects.
