The People Power Party (PPP) leadership will discuss follow-up measures against Rep. Kwon Young-jin, who caused a "collar-grabbing" disturbance, at a Supreme Council meeting on the 27th.
Choi Bo-yun, the PPP's chief spokesperson, met with reporters at the National Assembly on the 26th and said, "Voices are emerging among floor lawmakers asking whether this is a matter that should end with an apology." She added, "The party is fully aware of the situation, and it will be discussed at tomorrow's Supreme Council meeting."
She also said that police complaints and requests for disciplinary action against Rep. Kwon are being filed one after another. "Since something that should never have happened occurred, we have received numerous requests from party members urging severe punishment," Choi said. "At the party level, wouldn't it be reviewed by the Ethics Committee?"
On the 23rd of this month, Rep. Kwon engaged in a physical altercation, grabbing the collars of Floor Leader Chung Jum-sik and former Floor Leader Song Eon-seok while protesting the floor leadership's allocation of standing committee posts. Regarding this, Choi Su-jin, the PPP's chief floor spokesperson, applied pressure, saying, "Grabbing the collars of current and former floor leaders is something that cannot happen in the party," and "It is right for him to decide his own fate himself." Both within and outside the party, there are calls for Rep. Kwon to leave the party.
