President Lee Jae-myung, on a visit to San Francisco, attended the "San Francisco AI Summit" held in the city on the 24th and announced the "San Francisco AI Declaration," which outlines Korea's new vision for the AI era.
Attendees included Samsung Electronics Executive Chairman Jay Y. Lee, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chairman Euisun Chung, and Naver Chairman Lee Hae-jin. Global big tech executives also joined, including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, and Broadcom CEO Hock Tan.
President Lee first said, "Korea will emerge as an irreplaceable core nation in the global AI supply chain," adding, "Based on our world-class memory chip competitiveness and production capacity, we will become a trusted AI chip production base and a supply chain partner." He emphasized realizing the artificial intelligence (AI) demand that underpins the government's three mega projects and positioning Korea as a responsible AI leader.
He also said he would proactively take on the role of a "global hub" that narrows the gap between leading and developing nations. President Lee said, "We will build a horizontal cooperation network with various countries to create new AI markets, and enable citizens of more nations to participate in the opportunities of AI innovation." He added, "Rather than growth for Korea alone, we will be a responsible partner that shares the opportunities and benefits of AI with the entire world and grows together." He also made clear that the benefits of AI should not remain with only a certain class.
President Lee added, "Just as the Golden Gate Bridge, the symbol of San Francisco, connects the city and the world, I ask that all of you who are leading the global AI industry become bridges of cooperation that connect the world."
