Prime Minister Han Sung-sook called on the 9th for accelerating third-phase new town projects, saying that "swift housing supply is more important than anything else for stabilizing the housing market in the Seoul metropolitan area."
Han visited the Goyang Changneung district in Deogyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, together with Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Yun-duk that day to review the progress of third-phase new town projects and receive a report on the status of the developments.
The government plans to supply a total of 336,000 housing units across eight third-phase new towns, including Goyang Changneung. The Goyang Changneung district, with a scale of 38,000 units, has completed land compensation and is now proceeding with housing construction.
"Please make efforts to ensure that third-phase new town housing can be supplied in a timely manner," Han said. "Please also work to ensure that major infrastructure directly tied to the living conditions of third-phase new town residents — such as transportation, education, electricity, water and sewage, and district heating — is put in place without disruption, in line with the pace of housing supply."
Minister Kim also said, "As the role of third-phase new towns is very important for housing supply in the Seoul metropolitan area, we will concentrate all our capabilities on swift project implementation, including system improvements and thorough project management." He added, "We will also thoroughly manage worker safety at construction sites during the monsoon season, as well as the safety and quality of buildings."
