High-return investors trading through Mirae Asset Securities (006800.KS) bought the most shares of SK hynix (000660.KS), Samsung Electro-Mechanics (009150.KS), Simmtech and Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) preferred shares on the 13th, in that order.
The most-bought stock through 11 a.m. among these "elite traders" — clients ranking in the top 1% of investment returns over the past month — was SK hynix, according to Mirae Asset Securities. SK hynix was trading at 1.615 million won, up 7.38% from the previous session as of 11 a.m., data from the Korea Exchange showed. The stock had fallen to 1.42 million won as of the 10th but has regained upward momentum and is attempting to reclaim the 1.6 million won mark.
Buying appears to have concentrated on the stock as concerns over a semiconductor peak-out eased amid a recent sharp decline in the share price. SK hynix was also the most-bought stock among the elite traders the previous day. Kang Jin-hyuk, a senior researcher at Shinhan Securities, said in a report titled "AI Infrastructure Is Back," "Expectations for a rate freeze rose after the release of the U.S. consumer price index for July overnight, while AI sentiment improved on announcements of large cloud contracts by Big Tech."
Samsung Electro-Mechanics, ranked second in net buying, was changing hands at 1.508 million won as of 11 a.m., up 12.96% from the previous session. It posted the highest share-price gain among the 50 largest stocks by market capitalization on the KOSPI. The surge has been attributed to favorable comments from global investment bank Morgan Stanley, which had shifted its top pick to Samsung Electro-Mechanics from Samsung Electronics and raised its target price to 2.62 million won from 2.56 million won.
Morgan Stanley forecast that prices of multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs), Samsung Electro-Mechanics's main business, would remain elevated for some time. Improving demand for Ajinomoto Build-up Film (ABF) substrates was also cited as a positive factor. In addition, strength in semiconductor-related stocks such as Nvidia and Micron on the U.S. market overnight is seen as having lifted shares of Samsung Electro-Mechanics, a supplier of semiconductor components.
The top net-sold stocks on the day were Samsung Electronics, Kolmar Korea (161890.KS), PS Electronics and APR, in that order. Net buying the previous session was led by SK hynix, Cosmax and Kolmar Korea. The top net-sold stocks the previous day were Samsung Electronics, HD Hyundai Construction Equipment and Iljin Electric.
