SM Entertainment is ending its exclusive contract with Kwon Yuri after 19 years. Her activities as a member of Girls' Generation will continue unchanged.
SM Entertainment said on the 31st that it will terminate its exclusive contract with Kwon Yuri as of August 31. The move brings to a close a contract that had lasted 19 years since her debut with Girls' Generation in 2007, concluded through mutual agreement. SM said, "After in-depth discussions with Kwon Yuri, we have agreed to conclude our 19-year journey together," explaining that she will continue her activities as a member of Girls' Generation unchanged even after the contract ends.
SM said, "It has been a precious time to be part of Kwon Yuri's entire journey, from her debut with Girls' Generation in 2007 leading the global K-pop craze, to growing into a group that represents an era, and to shining as an actress." The company added, "We express our gratitude to Kwon Yuri, who has been active as an 'all-rounder artist' across various fields including music, acting, entertainment programs, and hosting." SM also conveyed its wish to support Kwon Yuri as she embarks on a new journey.
Kwon Yuri debuted with Girls' Generation in 2007 and established herself as a member of a leading girl group with hit songs such as "Into the New World" and "Genie." She later expanded her scope of activities as an actress, taking on various characters in dramas and entertainment programs. Earlier this year, she attempted an acting transformation by appearing in "THE WASP," a two-person psychological thriller play.
