Goodai Global, a beauty platform company, is pursuing a minority stake investment in skincare brand Torriden.
Goodai Global and Torriden have signed a strategic investment memorandum of understanding aimed at global business expansion and creating synergy, according to investment banking (IB) industry sources on the 29th. The arrangement is a strategic equity investment that maintains Torriden's independent management system, rather than a transfer of management control or a brand integration.
Torriden had previously been considered a potential target in the mergers and acquisitions (M&A) market, with domestic and foreign suitors including LG Household & Health Care reportedly reviewing an acquisition of management control. Although LG Household & Health Care engaged in actual negotiations, the deal did not materialize due to a gap in price expectations. Instead, Torriden received investment from Goodai Global and became a brand within the Goodai Global platform. The Goodai Global platform includes Beauty of Joseon, SKIN1004, TIRTIR, Round Lab, and Skinfood.
Torriden started as an indie brand and has continued to grow in major global markets including Korea, Japan, China, Southeast Asia, and North America. As its recognition increased, its earnings growth was also pronounced. Last year, revenue was 274.2 billion won, up approximately 50 percent from the previous year.
Torriden plans to raise its brand value in the global market based on its brand planning capabilities, product strength, and fandom assets. It also plans to strengthen its overseas market expansion by utilizing Goodai Global's global distribution network and infrastructure.
