Jeil Pharmaceutical has strengthened its research and development (R&D) capabilities by recruiting a new drug development expert.
Jeil Pharmaceutical announced Wednesday that it has appointed Park Jun-seok, former head of Daewoong Pharmaceutical's New Drug Discovery Center, as deputy head (executive vice president) of its Central Research Institute. Park will oversee research and development at Jeil Pharmaceutical's Central Research Institute, taking on the role of accelerating the development of innovative new drugs and the commercialization of next-generation R&D pipelines.
Park graduated from the Department of Chemistry at Chonnam National University and earned a doctorate in medicinal chemistry from Seoul National University's College of Pharmacy. Having served as head of Daewoong Pharmaceutical's New Drug Discovery Center and as chief strategy officer (CSO and vice president) of IN Therapeutics, he is regarded as an R&D leader who has guided the entire process from drug candidate discovery to approval over 30 years.
In particular, he led the development of homegrown blockbuster drugs including "Fexuclue," a treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease, and "Envlo," a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor for diabetes. Both products have led to global technology exports and are cited as representative cases demonstrating the commercialization potential of Korean-developed new drugs.
Through this appointment, Jeil Pharmaceutical plans to enhance its in-house new drug development capabilities and expand its pipeline for global market entry. "We expect newly appointed Deputy Head Park Jun-seok to lead R&D innovation for Jeil Pharmaceutical's global new drug development," a Jeil Pharmaceutical official said. "He will serve as a key driver in maximizing the value of our R&D pipeline to accelerate entry into global markets."
