DongSung Finetec (033500.KS), the global energy solutions arm of DongSung Chemical (102260.KS), is taking aim at the global market with HFO R-PUF, a low-carbon, high-efficiency insulation material for liquefied natural gas carriers.
The company said on the 17th that it presented the new product at Gastech 2026, a global energy industry exhibition and conference held in Bangkok, Thailand, on the 15th.
HFO R-PUF is an LNG carrier insulation material that replaces conventional HFC-based blowing agents, a synthetic refrigerant material, with HFO-based agents that have a lower global warming potential, while strengthening cryogenic insulation performance. A carbon footprint verification by DNV, the Norwegian classification society, found that greenhouse gas emissions fell 33% from the previous product, with thermal conductivity during cryogenic operation improving by up to 6%.
HFO R-PUF completed technical verification in December last year after receiving product approval from GTT, the French LNG cargo containment technology firm. DongSung Finetec plans to apply the product to vessels under construction next year and to expand talks on adoption, focusing on global LNG carrier projects.
The company has adopted "ECOTECO," a term denoting eco-friendly technology for a better global environment, as its brand philosophy and plans to continue expanding its portfolio of environmentally friendly products, including insulation materials for LNG carriers.
"This new product will be an important turning point in expanding DongSung Finetec's low-carbon, high-efficiency technology into a global business," said Park Ji-il, head of the company's business division. "Centered on ECOTECO, we will continue to introduce differentiated products and technologies and create new growth opportunities in the global market for eco-friendly ship equipment."
