HL Klemove, the autonomous driving solutions arm of HL Group, said on the 9th that it has signed a partnership with global IT company Lenovo to gain an early lead in the self-driving market.
The signing ceremony was held on the 8th at Lenovo's research and development center in Shanghai, China. HL Klemove was represented by President Lee Yoon-haeng, Chief Technology Officer Hong Dae-gun and Chief Marketing Officer Kim Sung-kook, while Lenovo sent Vice President Peter Xu and Chief Operating Officer Nicks Luo, among other officials.
Under the agreement, the two companies will jointly develop automotive artificial intelligence high-performance computing (HPC) systems and work together on winning orders and mass production. HL Klemove will handle the order-winning and mass production stages.
HL Klemove has built a global automaker network since 2012, giving it expertise in responding to local markets. It also has extensive mass production experience, having manufactured sensing and control components for Level 2 and Level 2+ autonomous driving at global sites including China, North America and India. The company currently holds about 2,700 related patents.
"By combining HL Klemove's technology, sales capability and production capacity with Lenovo's advanced design capability for autonomous driving controllers, we will strengthen our competitiveness in the global market," Lee said. "We will quickly deliver fully autonomous driving solutions that satisfy our customers."
Xu, who heads Lenovo's automotive computing division, said the company is expanding its AI computing business into automotive computing centered on Level 4 autonomous driving and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). "We will use HL Klemove's manufacturing capability and global supply network to accelerate our entry into new markets," he said.
