Hanjin (002320) Group said on the 8th that it will provide 1,000 boxes of Hanjin Jeju Pure Water bottled water and 1,000 blankets to flood-stricken areas of Nepal.
Korean Air (003490) shipped the first batch of relief supplies that afternoon on flight KE695 from Incheon International Airport to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, and will send another shipment on the 12th.
Nepal is facing a severe shortage of drinking water after the floods destroyed infrastructure, according to the company. The supplies will be distributed through the Nepalese government to displaced residents as well as to hospitals, rescue sites and other locations in need.
Korean Air and Hanjin also airlifted 10.5 tons of thermal blankets provided by the South Korean government on the 5th. Korean Air temporarily suspended existing cargo bookings and gave the government relief supplies priority in the cargo hold of its Kathmandu-bound flight. Hanjin managed the transport process as the freight forwarder for the government.
"We plan to continue transporting emergency relief supplies to disaster areas at home and abroad, drawing on our strengths as a global integrated logistics company, and to pursue various cooperative initiatives using our parcel delivery and logistics infrastructure to fulfill our corporate social responsibility," Hanjin Group said.
