Korean Air (003490) said on the 7th that it carried out a mural painting volunteer project with Delta Air Lines on the 4th at Seoul Namsan Elementary School in Seoul's Jung District to improve the local environment.
The project was aimed at improving the area around the school and giving students and residents a safer, more pleasant route to and from class. Fifty Korean Air employees and 30 Delta employees took part. Hansup, a Korean nonprofit organization, provided the mural designs and oversaw the event.
Employees from both airlines received a short briefing and put on work clothes before starting. Working from sketches featuring aircraft and major Seoul landmarks, participants painted the walls themselves, turning a once-dark stretch around the school into a bright and lively space.
The activity also gave employees of the two carriers a chance to talk with one another as they completed the mural, strengthening ties between the companies while improving the neighborhood.
"Korean Air and Delta have maintained a close partnership for many years, and it is all the more meaningful that we could extend that warmth to the local community through this project," said Chung Ho-yoon, an executive director at Korean Air. "The two companies will continue to work together on a range of social contribution activities that can bring positive change to communities."
Jeff Moomaw, Delta's senior vice president for the Asia-Pacific region, said he found it rewarding to join Korean Air employees on a project that will remain in the community for years to come. He added that he hoped the mural would bring lasting brightness and energy to the daily lives of students, families and local residents.
Since forming a trans-Pacific joint venture in May 2018, Korean Air and Delta have pursued joint social contribution work, including a Habitat for Humanity home-building project in Los Angeles, as part of their environmental, social and governance efforts.
