Hyundai Steel (004020) has met with clients in Turkey to share strategies for coping with tightening trade regulations, including the European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, or CBAM.
The steelmaker said on the 28th that it held briefing sessions on trade issues for local customers in Izmit and Bursa, two major industrial cities in Turkey, on the 19th and 20th.
The sessions were designed to help Turkish partners better understand the rules and develop response strategies, since companies outside the EU often struggle to obtain regulatory information quickly.
Although Turkey lies outside the EU, many of its manufacturers supply automotive materials and components to key European markets. A large number of officials from local auto parts supply chain companies attended the briefings.
The sessions covered the core provisions of the EU CBAM and its implementation procedures. Hyundai Steel also outlined the expanding scope of CBAM coverage — extending to steel derivatives, auto parts and home appliances — along with the outlook for future changes in EU trade policy. A question-and-answer session followed, focusing on practical difficulties local companies face in their operations.
"Turkish companies are closely tied to EU customers, so they cannot avoid regulatory changes such as CBAM," one attendee said. "This briefing gave us a concrete understanding of the impact on our actual business and the measures we need to take."
Hyundai Steel said it operates a response system that monitors policy shifts in major export markets, analyzes their potential impact in advance and shares the findings with its business divisions and customers, as uncertainty grows in the global trade environment. "Based on close collaboration with local customers, we will turn regulatory change into a new opportunity," a company official said. "We plan to continue strengthening our global supply chain and our capacity to support customers."
