LG Electronics (066570.KS) has released the world's first gaming monitor that displays 1,000 frames per second without lowering screen resolution. The move targets the first-person shooter (FPS) game market, where fast screen transitions can decide the outcome, with a strategy of delivering both an ultra-high refresh rate and high image quality at once.
LG Electronics said on the 26th that it had launched the LG UltraGear 25G590B in South Korea, a monitor that supports a 1,000Hz refresh rate at Full HD (FHD, 1920×1080) resolution as standard. It is priced at 1.49 million won ($1,090) on LG's online brand shop.
Refresh rate refers to how many times a screen is redrawn in one second. A rate of 1,000Hz means the display can show up to 1,000 images per second. A higher refresh rate renders the path of fast-moving objects more smoothly, making it a key factor in FPS and other esports games.
The new product achieves 1,000Hz while maintaining Full HD resolution, enabling fast screen transitions without any loss of image quality.
The monitor uses an IPS (in-plane switching) panel, which offers wide viewing angles and strong color reproduction. It also features Motion Blur Reduction Pro (MBR Pro) technology, which reduces afterimages to help track fast-moving objects more clearly. The design focuses on quickly spotting and aiming at opponents' movements in FPS games.
LG also strengthened the monitor's artificial intelligence (AI) features. AI Picture Optimization recognizes the content displayed on screen and automatically adjusts image quality. AI Sound gives directional depth to in-game footsteps and other audio when headphones are used. Considering gamers who make large mouse movements, the company reduced the stand base area by up to 49% compared with previous models.
LG Electronics is expanding its lineup of ultra-high refresh rate products because demand for premium gaming gear is growing rapidly alongside the expansion of esports. Market researcher IDC projected that the global gaming monitor market will grow at an average annual rate of 6.4% through 2030. The domestic market is expected to grow about 15% over the same period. LG UltraGear ranked first in South Korea's gaming monitor market by share in the first quarter of this year, according to IDC.
"This new product captures both of the core elements gamers want — refresh rate and image quality," said Lee Chung-hwan, Senior Vice President and head of the Display Business Unit at LG Electronics' Media Entertainment Solution division. "It will set a new standard for gaming displays."
