The GV90's hardware hallmark is the independently opening hidden B-pillar coach doors fitted on the "Neolun" model. Going beyond the limitation of conventional coach doors, which require opening the front door before the rear door, it realizes the world's first structure allowing the front and rear doors to open and close independently. Instead of removing the B-pillar to maximize the sense of openness, ultra-high-strength dual steel beams are applied inside the doors to support the side sections. In addition, the body surrounding the passenger space adopts a frame 1.5 times thicker than before, and ultra-high-strength steel tubes and high-rigidity structural foam are placed throughout to secure collision safety performance on par with vehicles that have a B-pillar. A roof airbag that quickly deploys to cover the entire roof glass to protect occupants in a rollover, a rotary shift lever that intuitively signals the drive-ready state, and an electric curtain applied to the tailgate are also technologies fitted for the first time in the world this time.
The GV90 applies a new power system that eliminates the start button for the first time in Hyundai Motor (005380) Group; pulling the door handle turns on the vehicle power and the door opens automatically. When the occupant gets in and closes the door, the rotary shift-by-wire (SBW) lever moves from the 12 o'clock to the 2 o'clock position to indicate the shiftable state. From there, without any separate start-button operation, one can drive immediately by pressing the brake pedal and shifting into gear.
For the 23.6-inch pop-up center OLED cinematic display, pressing a button while stationary raises the display 90 mm, enlarging the screen to 24.6 inches, about 1.7 times larger. It is equipped with Hyundai Motor Group's next-generation infotainment platform Pleos Connect, enabling natural-language conversation through the in-vehicle AI agent Gleo AI. In the case of the GV90 Neolun, powered swiveling seats are applied to the front seats for the first time in Hyundai Motor Group; pressing a button located on the door trim while parked rotates the front seats 180 degrees, transforming the cabin into a lounge where occupants can face one another.
The GV90 adopts Samsung SDI's prismatic batteries. With 350-kilowatt (kW)-class fast charging, it can charge from 10% to 80% of battery capacity in just 22 minutes. A slider structure is applied at the front of the battery so that in a frontal collision, the motor, subframe, and other components are diverted to the vehicle's underbody to avoid striking the battery directly, and battery safety technology (TRP) that prevents cell-to-cell thermal propagation is applied. In addition, world-class sound-insulating glass more than 5 mm thick is applied to all windows, and high-foam soundproofing filler is injected into the empty spaces of the body's main frame to reduce noise and vibration.
The design motif is the Joseon white-porcelain moon jar. The core is stripping away unnecessary lines and elements, like the moon jar represented by its harmony of proportion and curves and the beauty of empty space. The front and rear lamps applying a cutless method that minimizes the boundary between the lamps and the body, and the deleted rear spoiler, are cited as elements realizing this, and the interior likewise emphasizes refined sophistication and detail rather than flamboyance.
The GV90's driving performance and driver-assistance technologies are also top-tier. For the first time in Hyundai Motor Group, an E-LSD is fitted to each of the front and rear motors, improving cornering performance by efficiently controlling the power of all four wheels during high-speed turns. The multi-chamber air suspension effectively absorbs road shocks through air springs with adjustable stiffness.
In addition, the monotube-type dual-valve electronically controlled shock absorbers adjust damping force—soft when shocks need to be absorbed, firm when body movement is large. Also available are Remote Smart Parking Assist 3 (RSPA3), which enables automatic parking and exiting with simple operation, and Memory Reverse Assist (MRA), which helps the vehicle reverse more easily in narrow alleys or parking lots by remembering the trajectory it has traveled on its own.
