HS Hyosung Advanced Materials will sponsor a charity marathon supporting the descendants of Korea's independence fighters for a third straight year, marking National Liberation Day.
The company said on the 14th that it will back Habitat for Humanity Korea's "2026 815 Run," to be held at Seoul's Sangam World Cup Park on the 15th. Launched in 2020, the fundraising marathon campaign supports efforts to improve the housing conditions of independence fighters' descendants. All entry fees and corporate donations go toward supporting these families.
HS Hyosung Advanced Materials has sponsored the event since 2024. This year, employees selected through an internal call for participants will take part alongside family members and acquaintances. The company said such veterans' charity activities align with a patriotic spirit passed down from earlier generations. Cho Hong-jai, the late founding chairman of Hyosung Group, took part in the June 10th Independence Movement while studying at Jungang High School and was imprisoned for it. His patriotic spirit carried on into HS Hyosung's philosophy of "industrial nation-building" (san-eop ip-guk) — the idea of setting the country on firm footing through industry.
Cho Hyun-sang, vice chairman of HS Hyosung, said the founder's patriotic spirit is "a precious foundation and spiritual bedrock that made today's HS Hyosung Group possible." He added, "We will remember the noble sacrifices of the independence fighters who devoted themselves to the nation, and continue our support so that we can carry on their legacy together with members of society."
