Hyundai Engineering & Construction (000720), which won more than 7 trillion won in urban redevelopment orders in the first half of this year, has entered the competition to win the Mokdong Complex 10 reconstruction project in partnership with global architecture and design firms. Mokdong Complex 10 is a large-scale project that will reconstruct the existing 2,160 households into 4,248 households in buildings up to 40 stories high. The estimated construction cost reaches approximately 2.6135 trillion won.
Hyundai E&C said on the 5th that it will present a differentiated design for Mokdong Complex 10 in collaboration with Morphosis, a world-renowned architectural design firm, and Sasaki, a global integrated design group.
Morphosis is a design firm founded in 2005 by Thom Mayne, a winner of the Pritzker Prize, often called the "Nobel Prize of architecture." It has built its reputation on innovative designs that combine organic forms with advanced technology. It also participated in the design of the Apgujeong District 3 reconstruction. Sasaki is a design group founded in 1953 by landscape architect Hideo Sasaki. It has handled the green city design for the Beijing Olympics, the Chicago Riverwalk, and New York's Greenacre Park.
The global design team has already conducted an on-site inspection. On the 3rd, key design staff including Morphosis architect Eric Reich and Lim Sung-beom, head of the firm's Korea branch, visited Mokdong Complex 10 in person.
Sasaki will provide comprehensive advisory services across three areas: landscaping, individual units, and community facilities. In landscaping, it will apply four-season three-dimensional greening, resort-style water terraces, and private healing walking trails. For individual units, it proposes flexible floor plans that maximize views and natural light, along with window designs that draw in nature. In the community area, it presents an eco-friendly high-end club connecting indoor and outdoor spaces, as well as a hotel-style interior finish direction.
Hyundai E&C, which opened "The H Mokdong Lounge," a dedicated space for its high-end residential brand near Mokdong Complex 10 in March, has steadily communicated with union members by introducing its brand and residential products. "Mokdong Complex 10 is a representative complex that combines excellent living infrastructure, school districts, and business viability," a Hyundai E&C official said. "By combining Morphosis's architectural design and Sasaki's integrated design capabilities, with which we worked in tandem at Apgujeong District 3, with Hyundai E&C's residential technology, we will complete it as a residential complex representing the Mokdong new town."
