Seiko Epson has made an additional investment in Kosun Tech, a Korean inkjet technology startup, the company said on the 27th.
The investment follows an initial one made last year to establish a strategic partnership. The two companies plan to further strengthen their cooperation to apply inkjet technology in manufacturing next-generation perovskite solar cells (PSC).
Kosun Tech has developed inkjet systems for manufacturing organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays, securing uniform and precise ink jetting technology. Beyond OLED, the company is expanding its business into perovskite solar cells and the bio and medical fields.
Perovskite solar cells are drawing attention as next-generation solar cells due to their high energy conversion efficiency and their light, thin and flexible characteristics. Applying an inkjet process allows materials to be precisely deposited only where needed and in the required amount. This reduces costs and enables large-area production.
Epson has been pursuing technological cooperation with Kosun Tech by supplying industrial print heads. Through this additional investment, it plans to strengthen the partnership by broadening the range of applications for inkjet technology.
"This additional investment will serve as an opportunity to further strengthen the technological cooperation between the two companies," said Jun Morohoshi, president of Epson Korea. "Epson Korea will actively provide support through the supply of industrial print heads and technical assistance so that it can contribute to expanding the domestic inkjet ecosystem and to sustainable industrial development."
