Samsung Display and LG Display (034220.KS) are showcasing next-generation gaming display technologies side by side in Taiwan, vying for leadership in the premium organic light-emitting diode (OLED) monitor market.
Samsung Display said Monday it will unveil 16 products at "Computex 2026," held at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center in Taiwan from the 2nd to the 5th (local time), ranging from an 8.8-inch OLED for handheld gaming PCs to a 49-inch quantum dot (QD)-OLED for large gaming monitors.
At the exhibition, Samsung Display plans to demonstrate the fast response times, immersive experience and image quality that OLED and QD-OLED deliver in real gaming environments. The most notable product is an "ultra-slim" OLED panel for laptops. The company reduced the thickness at the module's outer edge by more than 20% compared with existing mass-produced products, while maintaining the deep black expression and high luminance characteristic of OLED. Refresh rates range from 165 hertz (Hz) up to 240Hz, the highest level for laptop OLED, targeting the gaming laptop market.
The company is also putting its new QD-OLED for monitors front and center. Samsung Display will reveal to clients the world's first QD-OLED that simultaneously achieves 4K resolution and a 360Hz refresh rate.
LG Display will hold its "Taiwan Gaming OLED Roadshow" in Taipei from the 4th to the 10th, under the theme "a faster, sharper and brighter display experience." LG Display plans to showcase new technologies to about 20 global gaming monitor set makers at the roadshow and discuss potential collaborations.
At the roadshow, LG Display will exhibit a flagship gaming OLED lineup ranging from the 20-inch to the 40-inch class. The event will feature the world's only 39-inch OLED monitor panel currently in mass production. The product applies 5K2K ultra-high-definition resolution, a 21:9 aspect ratio and a curvature of up to 1500R, enhancing immersion in racing and simulation games. A 27-inch OLED panel is also highlighted as a product with strong mass-market appeal.
In the next-generation technology zone, the company will introduce a gaming OLED that has reached the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) "Display High Dynamic Range (HDR) True Black 1000" level for the first time in the industry, along with technology delivering peak brightness of 2,000 nits (one nit equals the brightness of a single candle). Other showcased technologies include an RGB stripe OLED with uniformly arranged red, green and blue subpixels, black frame insertion (BFI), and dynamic frequency and resolution 2.0 (DFR 2.0).
