Samsung Display and LG Display (034220.KS) will showcase new organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technologies side by side at the world's largest display event.
Samsung Display said Friday it will participate in the "Society for Information Display (SID) Display Week 2026," a three-day event opening Friday at the Los Angeles Convention Center in the United States. SID Display Week is the world's largest display event, where major display companies and researchers gather to present advanced technologies and research achievements.
At the event, Samsung Display will unveil its new smartphone OLED technology, "Flex Chroma Pixel." The Flex Chroma Pixel achieves a maximum screen brightness of 3,000 nits (one nit equals the brightness of a single candle). It also supports the BT.2020 color gamut standard—which refers to the range of colors a screen can express—up to 96%, enabling richer color expression than current smartphone displays, which stand at around 70%.
"Through continuous research and development, Samsung Display will lead display innovation and serve as a technological compass guiding our customers and the market," said Lee Chang-hee, Samsung Display's Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
LG Display will also attend the event and unveil its "third-generation Tandem OLED" technology for the first time. Tandem OLED is a product that stacks OLED elements in a layered structure to extend lifespan, increase brightness, and reduce power consumption. The third-generation technology cuts power consumption by 18% compared with previous versions and more than doubles its lifespan. Designed for automotive use, it offers durability capable of withstanding 15,000 hours at 1,200 nits of brightness.
"Placing customers as our top priority, we will firmly establish technology leadership that leads the future display market as a technology-driven company," said Choi Young-seok, LG Display's CTO.
