The boy from the "Pinkfong Baby Shark Dance" video has returned as a singer a decade later.
The Pinkfong Company released "WAVE (Feat. Joohoney of Monsta X)," the first digital single by "Baby Shark Boy," on major music platforms in South Korea and abroad on the 20th.
"WAVE" is a dance track that blends electropop and trap sounds with the familiar "Baby Shark" melody. Baby Shark Boy took part in writing the lyrics himself, expressing the excitement and resolve of leaving childhood behind and starting a new challenge.
Monsta X's Joohoney joined as a featured artist, adding energy to the track with his signature powerful rap. The performance was handled by "TEAM SAME," led by K-pop choreographer Choi Young-jun. Choi, who has created choreography for BTS, Seventeen and Twice, paid homage to the signature moves of the "Baby Shark Dance" and reinterpreted them as a K-pop performance.
"For me, the 'Pinkfong Baby Shark Dance' video is like the first wave that began 10 years ago," Baby Shark Boy said. "I poured my desire to move toward a new wave into 'WAVE.'"
"It is meaningful to be part of the moment when the boy from the video takes his first step as a solo artist," Joohoney said. "I sincerely support his journey ahead."
The Pinkfong Company also plans to release "WAVE: A Boy's Record," a behind-the-scenes documentary chronicling Baby Shark Boy's growth and the making of his first single. The company is also considering follow-up collaborations, including participation in a Baby Shark film set to open this winter.
