CJ CGV announced on the 7th that cumulative audiences for Korean content showcased worldwide through premium technology auditoriums operated by its subsidiary CJ 4DPLEX have surpassed 2 million.
CJ 4DPLEX began full-scale screenings at premium technology auditoriums in nine countries in 2015, starting with six titles including "Snowpiercer" and "Assassination." Since then, it has steadily expanded the number of countries and titles, presenting a total of 82 Korean works in 69 countries to date. Annual global audiences have also grown from about 30,000 in 2015 to more than 300,000 in 2025, with 18 titles released across 45 countries.
In particular, Korean films such as "Train to Busan," "Peninsula," "Emergency Declaration" and "Exhuma" have been consistently introduced to global markets through the premium technology auditoriums, earning recognition for driving the global expansion of K-movies.
CJ 4DPLEX plans to continue expanding the global reach of Korean content through its premium technology auditoriums. "Salmokji," which is challenging for the top spot in Korean horror box office history, will be released globally in SCREENX and 4DX formats, beginning in North America and rolling out to Japan, Vietnam and other markets from mid-May. A range of other titles, including "Gunche," invited to the non-competition section at the Cannes Film Festival, and "Oh! My Madam 2," will also meet overseas audiences in SCREENX and 4DX formats.
The addition of K-pop artists' live concert content has further broadened the global audience base. Content featuring artists such as BTS and SEVENTEEN has been screened in numerous countries, drawing large audiences in short periods and demonstrating the global scalability of premium technology auditoriums.
The premium technology auditoriums are supporting sustained growth by expanding the global footprint of Korean content with differentiated competitiveness. SCREENX maximizes immersion through a central screen and additional screens extending to both side walls, while 4DX combines motion chairs and various effects to transform viewing into an experience, broadening points of contact with global audiences. "Beyond expanding K-content through premium technology auditoriums, we are strengthening competitiveness by advancing CG, VFX and AI production technologies to enhance quality and efficiency from the content creation stage," said Bang Joon-sik, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX. "We will continue to elevate the value of content through technology so that K-content can reach an even wider global audience."
