
Pressing the brush head against a model set of teeth and moving it as if brushing, a clicking sound rang out each time it passed a gap between teeth, releasing a spray of liquid. Even when the brush was moved quickly, the liquid shot precisely into the spaces between the teeth. The device brushes and cleans between teeth at the same time.
That was the first impression of the Dyson CameraJet, the British company's first oral care product. The CameraJet is an electric toothbrush equipped with an artificial intelligence algorithm. An endoscope-grade high-resolution camera detects the spaces between teeth and sprays liquid each time the brush passes over them, combining brushing and interdental cleaning in a single step. Dyson held a launch event for the CameraJet on the 10th at Gavitseom on the Banpo Hangang Park in Seocho District, Seoul, setting up a space where visitors could try the product.
Rich Bacon, who heads Dyson's new business division, said at the event that South Korea maintains stricter oral hygiene than other countries because habits such as brushing after meals are already established, but that the use of floss and interdental brushes has not become part of daily routines. He added that many people know flossing matters yet fail to do it properly because cleaning between teeth feels tedious and takes time, and that Dyson had long focused on the problem and built brushing and interdental cleaning into one process. Dyson took six years to develop the product.

The core technology behind the CameraJet is its Gap Optical Targeting camera system. A one-square-millimeter macro lens camera with 100,000 pixels analyzes 28 images per second, while an AI machine learning algorithm predicts the gaps between teeth. Dyson trained the algorithm on 470,000 images of teeth to improve accuracy. As a result, the device sprays liquid within 0.1 second of the camera detecting a gap. The jet can be fired either automatically or manually.
The liquid is held in a semicircular tank at the center of the body. Dyson placed expanding and contracting silicone inside the tank so the jet works no matter what angle the user holds the brush at. Water, commercially available mouthwash and a dedicated cleaning solution can all be used, though plans to release the dedicated solution in South Korea have not yet been set.
The CameraJet also carries a three-dimensional sonic brush made up of dual bristles. A sonic motor vibrates 245 times per second to remove plaque. The dual-bristle brush reaches into uneven contours of the teeth to clear plaque.

Linked to the MyDyson app, users can also see inside their mouth in real time while brushing. The CameraJet's camera activates only during live view or automatic jet spraying. Images are not stored on the device or in the cloud, a measure that reflects the fact that the product is used in the bathroom.
The recommended retail price is 749,000 won. The package includes the main body, which serves as both electric toothbrush and oral irrigator, a refill dock that doubles as a charger and a holder for cleaning solution, two dual-bristle brush heads and a USB-C cable. The price is steep even accounting for the combination of electric toothbrush and interdental cleaner, but the entire presale allocation on the official website has sold out and the product is currently unavailable. It will be available through the official website and online channels once stock is replenished.
The question for the market is whether a cutting-edge toothbrush costing 750,000 won actually works. Experts advise that everyday habits matter more than elaborate tools. According to Britain's Guardian, Eddie Crouch, chair of the British Dental Association, said patients should not be under the illusion that the latest gadget will solve all their oral health problems, and that expensive big-brand products cannot substitute for proper brushing habits.
