KT (030200.KS) said on the 9th that it has launched the Genie TV Set-Top Box A2, a device that packs the core artificial intelligence features of its Genie TV service into a compact design at a lower cost to subscribers.
The A2 uses an AI agent built on a large language model, allowing customers to search for content by talking with the AI. Users who cannot recall an exact title can describe the plot, cast or mood and the device will find what they are looking for. They can also ask questions about what they are watching and get answers on the spot.
The box also upscales low-resolution content to as high as 4K UHD and provides AI-generated real-time subtitles for the audio of live channel broadcasts. Sound is automatically optimized by genre, including music, sports and movies, and for films, dramas and news programs the device detects voice frequency bands to deliver dialogue more clearly. It also automatically adjusts volume differences between live channels, video on demand and online streaming services.
KT said it has improved the accuracy of the AI agent's voice recognition, reducing cases in which ordinary conversation is mistaken for a command so that the device responds only to actual requests.
The Genie TV Set-Top Box A2 has a compact circular design measuring 12 millimeters on each side and weighing 186 grams. It runs on the Android TV 14 platform, giving users access to a range of streaming services. The standard monthly rental fee is 7,700 won, including value-added tax, under a three-year contract. A care service package that includes the set-top box rental is offered at 5,500 won a month, including value-added tax, under a three-year contract.
