Kakao Games (293490) said on the 2nd that it has made a strategic investment in BackendX, a company that automates backend development and operations using artificial intelligence. BackendX has technology that turns a developer's plain-language requirements into a software blueprint, with more than 50 AI agents then handling everything from building the backend to deployment and operations.
BackendX was founded in July 2025 by CEO Moon Dae-kyung, who previously served as head of the new technology development office and server team leader at Nexon Korea and as CEO of iFunFactory, a game server engine specialist. Moon sold management control of iFunFactory to Coinone in 2018. BackendX is taking pre-registrations from users ahead of the official service launch on the 7th.
Kakao Games said it saw strong potential in BackendX, which offers a backend solution covering service operations and deployment, as the market for "vibe coding" — building apps without professional development skills — grows rapidly.
Through the investment, Kakao Games plans to secure a pipeline for identifying promising indie and small studios early and later converting those relationships into acquisitions or publishing deals. The company expects to offer BackendX's service to small studios under publishing contracts, easing their development and operating burden while improving their game production and service capabilities.
"We believe BackendX's solution has significant value because indie game developers around the world can use it easily," Kakao Games CEO Kim Tae-hwan said. "In step with the era of AX, or AI transformation, we aim to raise the use of AI technology across the company and ultimately contribute to our business competitiveness and corporate value."
