Daewoong Pharmaceutical (069620) is teaming up with medical imaging artificial intelligence company Promedius to build a patient management model that identifies people at risk of osteoporosis early using chest X-rays and connects them to diagnosis and treatment.
Daewoong Pharmaceutical said on the 27th that it had signed an agreement with Promedius covering domestic sales, distribution and joint marketing of Osteo Signal, an AI-based osteoporosis risk screening solution that uses chest X-ray images.
The two companies will cooperate to expand adoption at domestic medical institutions and market the product jointly. Daewoong Pharmaceutical will use its nationwide network of medical institutions to drive market expansion, while Promedius will support deployment in clinical settings based on its medical imaging AI technology.
Osteo Signal analyzes chest X-ray images taken during health checkups or routine care with AI and presents an osteoporosis risk assessment. It uses existing images without requiring additional imaging, helping to screen for at-risk groups and identify patients who need further tests such as bone density scans. The companies plan to expand distribution primarily at health screening centers, hospitals and clinics where chest X-rays are routinely taken.
Osteoporosis is often called a silent disease because it frequently produces no clear symptoms until a fracture occurs. Some patients miss the window for diagnosis because they do not undergo bone density testing even when at risk, making it important to detect at-risk groups early and connect them to testing and treatment.
Through the partnership, Daewoong Pharmaceutical is expanding its business scope from osteoporosis treatment to AI-based early screening. In particular, the company will build a patient management system running from identifying at-risk groups through detailed testing, diagnosis and treatment, while strengthening links with existing treatment options such as its osteoporosis drug Stoboclo.
Promedius plans to use Daewoong Pharmaceutical's network of medical institutions and its sales and marketing capabilities to expand domestic adoption of Osteo Signal and accumulate real-world clinical use cases.
"Through Osteo Signal, we will screen for osteoporosis risk groups from existing chest X-rays and connect them to bone density testing and diagnosis, while building an integrated osteoporosis management model that extends to the treatment stage," said Lee Chang-jae, chief executive of Daewoong Pharmaceutical.
Osteo Signal won the 2024 Digital Healthcare Challenge, co-hosted by UNIST and the Smart Health Center at UCLA in the United States, as an AI-based osteoporosis screening solution.
